Youth centers and transitional housing are safe gathering posts for teens and young adults. Brittany, a pregnant 20-year-old, visits the Life House Youth Drop-in Center. At night she sleeps on friends' couches or on occasion with her family while in search of an apartment. She earns just $6 an hour as a hostess. "Some people dream of being a doctor or a lawyer, I just want a home and to be a good mom," she says.Cathy ten Broeke |
