Green Craftsman Series (2008)
Building Better Neighborhoods home plans were revised in late 2007 to make it easier to address construction-related Green Communities Criteria. By using the products and procedures found in the “GREEN PRODUCTS” section of the cover sheet, these home plans provide prospective homebuyers and builders with a variety of options that lead to construction of healthier homes affordable to own and operate. GMHF’s national partner in Green Communities, Enterprise, provided technical assistance and funding for energy modeling related to these revisions.

Craftsman Series (2005)
In 2004-2005 GMHF researched and improved its affordable single-family home designs as a means of reducing construction and operating costs, fostering broader community acceptance for affordable housing development and improving the livability of homes for families with children.

The updated plans improve architectural design details while maintaining affordability. Improvements include adding front porches, incorporating multiple siding materials such as shakes, and improving floor plans and material efficiencies. The homes are designed for families with children and to increase social interaction and walkability in neighborhoods. These homes were featured in a Time Magazine feature article entitled “Bringing Back the Neighborhood” in December, 2005.
