Craftsman Series (2005)
In 2004-2005 GMHF researched and improved its affordable
single-family home designs as a means of reducing construction
and operating costs, fostering broader community acceptance
for affordable housing development and improving the livability
of homes for families with children.
The updated plans improve architectural design details while
maintaining affordability. Improvements include adding front
porches, incorporating multiple siding materials such as shakes,
and improving floor plans and material efficiencies. The homes
are designed for families with children and to increase social
interaction and walkability in neighborhoods. These homes were
featured in a Time Magazine feature article entitled “Bringing
Back the Neighborhood” in December, 2005. Click
